The higher and contiguous hill lands of the north and northwestern part of the state have an area of more than 25,000 square miles (65,000 km2). The breadth of the alluvial region along the Mississippi is 10–60 miles (16–97 km), and along the other rivers, the alluvial region averages about 10 miles (16 km) across. The state may properly be divided into two parts, the uplands of the north (the region of North Louisiana), and the alluvial along the coast (the Central Louisiana, Acadiana, Florida Parishes, and Greater New Orleans regions).

Just north of Austin, the once very quiet Round Rock has become a hub for dining and entertainment. Louisiana Longhorn Cafe is my wife and I’s favorite restaurant when looking for cajun food.

Finley’s feels like a second home where we can enjoy good food and great company in beautiful, downtown Round Rock. The rustic-chic decor adds a welcoming touch to the whole experience. The atmosphere adds to the experience, featuring decor that captures the vibrant spirit of Louisiana.
600 Degrees has outdone themselves by adding sandwiches to their already robust menu. Wiseguys Chicago eatery melts their cheese to perfection in their Chicago Cheesesteak and sandwich creations. Their menu is filled with handheld treats. Get your sandwich and waffle fix at the same time at Waffle Love in Round Rock. They have a South West Turkey sandwich, Patty Melt, Reuben, and a BLT on the menu. We recommend trying their melt-in-your-mouth Philly Cheesesteak!
Among its Christian population—and in common with other southern U.S. states—the majority, particularly in the north of the state, belong to various Protestant denominations. The chicken fried steak and steak finger basket are standout dishes, made with fresh, not frozen, ingredients. From Texas-size burgers to crispy chicken-fried steaks and golden onion rings, our menu has something for everyone. I left the restaurant feeling content and satisfied, knowing that I had indulged in one of the best chicken fried steaks in Round Rock.
Devoted to seafood of all kinds, Freda’s is also known for serving a good selection of dishes inspired by native Louisiana cooking. Live music is almost always on the schedule, and terrific dining is a given. The menu mixes Cajun, Greek, and Texan fare, meaning you can start with spanokopetes or gumbo and then munch on shrimp Mytilini or pork boudin. Hill Top, set away from prominent restaurant thoroughfares and given to an eclectic menu and the whims of its owners, is a refreshing change of pace from corporate eateries. Frog legs, fried pickles, smoked boudin, and Cajun crab cakes all make excellent starters.
